Implementation of New Traffic Regulations Led to the Drop in the Number of Accidents
A citywide check which followed the implementation of the regulations in which the traffic police caught 29 drivers driving without license plates, covered plated or duplicate plates to intentionally evade being caught or punished. Based on the new regulations drivers caught without license plates are subjected to a 10,000 yuan fine and their license suspended. Drivers caught with covered plates are fined 6,000 yuan and 12 points will be deducted to the license along with a 6 month suspension.
Other violations such as illegal lane changing have also dropped during the holiday, but violations such as yielding to pedestrians at intersections or crosswalks without lights have increased. Traffic police said that most drivers were cautious in driving once the punishment and fines were strengthened. Traffic police are also reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians and to slow down on right turns on roads without traffic lights. Those caught will be fined 50 yuan and three points deducted on the licenses.
Traffic police have also decided not to enforce regulations against running yellow lights, saying that the city traffic monitoring systems are unable to photograph vehicles running yellow lights.
