Li Na Wins Seventh WTA Title at Shenzhen Open
Li Na of China fought hard and secured a 6-3, 1-6. 7-5 victory over Klara Zakopalova last Saturday and captured the title in the Shenzhen Open. This will be Na’s seventh WTA title in spite of serving ten double faults compared to her opponent who had none.
Li fought back after dropping serve during the opening game of the last set and when on to win five of the next six games to build a 5-2 lead. Li said that is was a big test and she played a few times and not once it became an easy match. Li also said that the play Zakapalova used was not her favorite as her opponent hits a flat ball. Li is scheduled to compete at the Sydney event next week as a warmup for the Australian Open wherein she will try to regain her glory as a former grand slam winner. Not only Li became the first Chinese to win the Grand Slam title in 2011 but also the first Asian to win in the French Open.
During the semifinals Li, beat Peng Shuai of China, while Zakopalova defeated Monica Niculescu for a spot in the finals.
