Drivers Using Hands Free Systems While Driving will not be Penalized
Even with the new traffic regulations that ban the use of phones while driving, drivers using hands free or Bluetooth headsets inside their cars will not be penalized. Drivers caught using handheld phones however will have two points added to their license based on the national regulations that took effect last January 1. Driver with 12 points accumulated in a year will have their license taken away.
Drivers making or answering phone calls using Bluetooth headsets or hands free systems will not be penalized, driver caught using phones in different ways such as micro blogging or sending text messages while driving will be penalized as well. The new traffic regulations on phone use boosted the Bluetooth market as drivers started to buy the hands free unit. Study showed many drivers are answering the phones when someone is calling whether hands free or not.
Using the phone while driving is considered a distraction and creates risks and traffic jams. Recent statistics showed that the risk of getting into an accident is higher especially when the driver is using the phone.
