Flower Prices to Rise a Few Weeks Before Spring Festival

Flower Prices to Rise a Few Weeks Before Spring FestivalFlower prices have started to increase as the Spring Festival holiday is just less than a month away. Majority of the local flower stores are replenishing their stocks in preparation for the upcoming holiday.

Merchants say that order volumes and prices of several known flowers have increased. Prices are expected to rise especially two weeks before the festival.  Gardener working for Shenzhen Fine Floriculture in the huge Shenzhen Flower World a wholesale market in Futian district saw a rise of 1.5 yuan in a few months prior is now 5 yuan. The gardener also added that the low temperature negative effects on the flower production are also contributing to the price increase along with the upcoming holiday.

To avoid these high prices most of the residents are placing order ahead of time. Most popular flowers such as potted orange plants, lucky bamboo and jiejiegao, a bamboo plant that is known for having a tower shape are fast sellers especially around the lunar year holiday.

To attract buyers several merchants are using different methods in making the flowers more attractive. Some use small red lanterns in decorating bouquets while other use bowknots and plastic gold ingots. All these are placed in a blue and white porcelain vase which many believe is part of traditional Chinese culture. Other tends to use western style of decoration to attract foreigners as well.
