Plans to Control Passenger Flow at Metro Stations Released
The Shenzhen MTR Co. will be controlling the flow of passengers during morning rush hours at the Shenzhen Minle, North and Baishilong stations after the Spring Festival holiday that might affect the Longhua line on the Metro.
Temporary fences will be installed in station halls and several entrances that will guide passengers and will release passengers to trains in controlled batches. This move is done in efforts to help reduce passenger congestion have already drawn criticism from passengers. The Shenzhen North Station is handling more than 70,000 passengers a day and most of these passengers are riding high speed trains. The Baishilong and Minle stations handle passengers between downtown and Longhua New Area.
Several passengers are arguing that the plans are not that efficient and that the best way to relive passenger congestion at stations is to add more trains and shortening the intervals between train departures. Controlling passenger flow will only mean that passengers might be waiting longer to ride the train to work.
