More Than 500,000 Travelers Left Shenzhen as Holiday Travel Season Starts
As the 40 day Spring Festival travel season starts more than 550,000 travelers have left Shenzhen to go home for the holidays. The temporary L76 train to Chengdu left with nearly 2,000 migrant workers was the largest holiday migration of the year.
Based on the Spring Festival Transportation Office of Shenzhen with coordinated the traveling for the Spring Festival said that the city will be handling more than 11 million passengers in the 40 day travel period. Railway authority encourages passengers to choose other means of transportation since there will be more than 3 million people leaving during the 15 day pre festival period and trains only have the capacity of handling 1.3 million passengers.
Meanwhile the Shenzhen airport handled around 45,000 outbound travelers which is a large increase from the normal flow of passengers. Travel peak at the airport will begin this coming weekend. Bus tickets are still available but are expected to sell fast by next week,
Om the other hand traffic police set up inspections stations on major expressways to check for speeders, overloading and tired drivers during the holidays and so far traffic police have recorded around 300 violations on the first day of the travel season with most of the travelers violated the speed limits by 50 to 100 percent.
Authorities are expecting a record of more than 3 billion trips to be made on this year’s travel rush as most of the Chinese working away from home see the holiday as an opportunity go home and spend time with family. Traditionally travelers chose road and rail as the main transportation since it offers lower fares that plane travel on their trip home.
