Huaqiangbei Trunk Road to be Closed to Give Way to Construction
A major trunk road along Huaqiangbei in Futian will be closed down after the Lantern Festival to allow construction work for the expansion projects of the Metro Rail. City railway construction office said the closure of one of the city most crowded business area between Shennan Boulevard and Hongli Road will start on February 25 a day after the Lantern Festival.
Sidewalks for pedestrian will remain open on each side to provide people access to businesses found on each side of the roads to hopefully limit the affects of the expansion on these businesses. the Metro Line 7 projects in the Huaqiangbei area will include Metro Station, some commercial property development south of Huaxin Station and a sectional link between Huaqiangbei station and Huaxin Station. The construction work will also cause relocation, pipeline rerouting, traffic relief efforts and land requisitions.
Greenery belts found on parts of Huafu and Hongli road will be removed and replaced with bus stops to help relief congestion. Also effort will be made to reduce noise and dust along with construction rules that will help reduce the impact caused on businesses.
Several business owners are asking property owners to lower rents and for the government to reduce taxes and offer subsidies during the three year construction period since their businesses will be affect and incomes will surely dropped during this time.
