City Parking Fees to be Increased to Further Reduce Traffic Congestion
The city is planning to increase parking fees at central areas this year in hopes to reduce traffic congestion and discourage the use of vehicles. Although the details of the policy have not yet been discussed during a meeting that outlines the work of the local transportation commission for 2013.
So far the commission has 24 measures that will help relieve traffic congestion in the city which includes building more parking facilities, developing public transportation, and increasing parking fees. Based on a report given by the city urban transportation planning and design institute said that the city is planning to scrap the ceiling for daytime parking fees and use a different fee structure that has no limits in central areas. Parking fees in the city commercial venues especially in busy areas is 15 yuan or more for the first hour of daytime parking with no ceiling.
Nighttime parking from 8 pm to 8 am will have a ceiling price of 10 to 15 yuan. As of the moment the city has a ceiling of 60 yuan for 24 hours paring in high use areas and 35 yuan for 24 hours of parking in a lesser busy area.
To further relieve congestion the city will optimize 90 bus routes and will be adding another 100 kilometers of bus lanes. The city is also adding 10,000 more bicycles to public rental services near Metro stations to accommodate short community trips. 100 cabs will also be added that will accommodate people with disabilities.
