More People Doing Spring Festival Shopping Online
More people in Shenzhen are doing their Spring Festival shopping online. Based on a study made by Taobao.com the largest e-commerce site in the country that sales of small food items during the first 20 days of January have doubled compared to sales in December. Meanwhile sales of gift items and small consumer electronics have increased to 80 percent compared to the previous month.
Some say that products sold online are cheaper than those sold at super markets and it’s more convenient and they don’t have to spend time at crowded supermarkets and lugging purchases home since all purchases online were delivered to their doorsteps.
Residents traveling home also saw the benefits of online shopping. One resident said that he used to bring a large suitcase when going home since he had to bring so many presents and local products for family and friends. But this year he ordered everything online and had them delivered to his parent’s home, even when he is still in Shenzhen working the items he ordered have already arrived.
Also online stores are launching promotions on Spring Festival products in hopes to attract customers since the numbers of online buyers is increasing sharply in the past few days. Because of competition a lot of online stores are giving discounts of up to 50 percent. Also the consumer council is also reminding people purchasing online to take extra care in buying products online especially food by making sure the items are not past their expiration dates.
