Charity Project Donates Free Blood Cards to Children Suffering from Anemia
Thirty four children suffering from a form of anemia received fuel cards that were donated by Project Care last Sunday. Thalassemia or Mediterranean anemia is a blood disorder which children inherit from defective genes in either parent or both.
The said fuel cards allows these children to get 12 free blood transfusions in one year in efforts to prolong their lives since their bodies does not have the capability in producing enough hemoglobin, a type of protein allowing red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body and carry carbon dioxide to the lungs to be exhaled.
This will be the tenth year in which the city has given out free fuel cards to children. In the past ten years the project received more than 6.5 million yuan in donations and has helped more than 200 children suffering from the disease. Most of the donations were given by companies in the city. Through this project the city was able to build relationship with several of the families which most of them are suffering from financial difficulties.
Based on future plans the fuel cards program will be promoted to other parts of Guangdong so more children suffering from the disease can get the same benefits.
