Spring Festival Flower Fair to Continue Until Saturday
The annual Spring Festival Flower Fair opened yesterday and greeted buyers with a slight increase in price for some of the popular flowers displayed in the fair. The fair which continues until Saturday, the eve of the Chinese New Year is located at Aiguo Road in Luohu District.
This year’s fair shows nearly a 20 percent growth in wholesale prices along with the increase in booth rentals. According to florists they had to increase flower prices slightly as the most expensive booths can have rental fee of up to 15,000 yuan that is done through bidding. Most of the flower retailers said that due to high costs and fierce market competition made it more difficult to conduct business this year. Still they are confident that they can still rake in revenues.
Because of the wet and warm winter, flowers bloomed ahead of schedule, and because of this they have a higher quality and will be drawing in more buyers. Peach flowers and chrysanthemums maintained their popularity with customers, while the more expensive flowers such as butterfly orchids saw a decrease in demand since their main buyers are government departments which limited extravagance in this year’s holiday celebrations.
