Local Government to Look Into Protecting Wintersweet Garden
Residents are asking the local government to look into protecting a large garden that is heavy populated with wintersweet in Pingshan New Area. Also known as chimonanthus have withered in the recent years due to lack of protection efforts.
The garden located on Maluan Mountain covers more than one square kilometer, as of now only a few wintersweet are seen while most of the wintersweet trees have already withered to death. A man in charge of the Maluan community said that the lack of management is the cause of the neglect in the garden.
Since 1990 the garden has not been in any management care, and when the village where the garden is found was purchased by an unidentified enterprise it was still neglected. A resident said that the garden was a rare and natural scenic spot in the area and the Maluan Mountain has both historical heritage and beautiful scenery the residents are hoping that these resources will be protected. Residents are hoping that the government can look into the situation of the garden and to try to restore its beauty once again.
