Extra Pay Lures Migrant Workers to Stay and Work through the Holidays

Extra Pay Lures Migrant Workers to Stay and Work through the HolidaysWhile most of the country’s 200 million migrant workers go home for the Spring Festival, most of them chose not to due to the lure of big pay checks for working through the holidays. But even with the lure of money that doesn’t mean they can’t see their families.

One welding operator working on an overpass project in Zhengzhou said that he want s to go home and see his family, but instead of putting down his tools he and along with 10 of his co workers are working through the holidays and they will be getting an extra 500 yuan per day which is a huge incentive for them. He instead asked his wife and kid to visit and stay with him for the holidays.

Not all of the migrant workers are as lucky, some are staying to work in the city alone, and some are lured by extra pay or doesn’t have that money to purchase a ticket home.

The 200 million migrant workers are said to be the driving force of the world’s second largest economy, but during the New Year all of them have one simple wish and that is to go home and spend time with family. Their dedication to hard work and sacrifice earn them much respect from peers and other people.

Spring Festival is the only time were a person can make new year wishes to have a better life in China, while some wishes for a more money to support their families.
