Exhibitions and Events to Help Celebrate Lantern Festival in Shenzhen
This coming Sunday an intangible heritage exhibition will be held at Shenzhen Book City CBD store in Futian as part of the upcoming Lantern Festival celebration. The exhibition will feature performance, cultural displays and games.
The book store will be presenting ten traditional performances ranging for a fishing village wedding ceremony, Hakka drumming, a lion and dragon dance. There will be also sixty exhibitions of traditional items from paintings to different Chinese medicines. During the exhibition visitors can participate in traditional Chinese sports activities that will be offered by the store such as rolling iron rings, shuttlecock kicking and a riddle competition.
The Children’s Library in Shenzhen is planning a celebration event on Sunday showcasing free performances for children together with their parents. Local restaurants and bars will be organizing celebrations and various promotions for patrons while major shopping venues will offer discounts to attract shoppers during the weekend.
Sales of the traditional Lantern Festival staple glutinous rice balls have increased 60 percent over the week from 3 yuan to 20 yuan, higher compared to last year’s prices. Other traditional items such as nuts and black sesame are also popular along with nontraditional items such as sweets and exotic fruits.
