Country’s Top Political Advisers Meet for its Annual Session
The country’s top political advisory body had its annual session in Beijing yesterday. Around 2,200 members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference were in attendance and will be discussing major issues that concern the development of the country.
During the opening meeting at the Great Hall of the People, the National Committee Chairman of the CPPCC Jia Qinglin gave a report on the works made by the Standing Committee during the past five years. During that time more than 28,000 proposals have been submitted by the CPPCC and around 26,000 of these proposals have been handled as of February 20. For its future works, the CPPCC must play its role as an important channel for the promotion of consultative democracy better by enriching forms of consultation while improving its consultative system.
The political advisory body must maintain close contact with the members of the CPPCC in Hong Kong and Macao and have them play positive roles in the building of their special administrative regions. Further more cooperation with Taiwan needs to be enhanced to allow it to cultivate into more common interests for growth of cross Straits relations.
