Residents to Pay Part of Costs in the Upgrades of Old Water Pipes
Residents will be paying part of the costs for the replacement of their old water pipes to gain access high quality tap water that can be drunk directly from the tap. The pipe upgrades is said to cost 3,000 yuan per household in low rise buildings and 5,000 yuan per household in high rise buildings.
The water resource and supply department said that the city water plants provides the drinking water with quality that matches tap water in Europe and the United States, but the quality of the water pipes in residential communities decides if residents will have direct access to the drinking water. The city is also planning to launch projects that will give residents access to drinkable tap water. Replacing of aging water pipes is a major task and is said to cost at least 1.8 billion yuan.
