Bicycle Stands to Be Constructed Near Shenzhen University Station
A sub district in Nanshan plans to install a 200 spot bicycle stand at the Shenzhen University Station on Luobao Line before the month ends. The move is done to facilitate the bicycle riding community living in the area.
The Shenzhen University Station is located at the Shenzhen High Tech Industrial Park and is home to a hundred high tech companies including Evoc, Han’s Laser and Tencent that is located farther from the station and from a comfortable walking distance. Employees living in the area are using bicycles when traveling between the Metro Stations and to their offices, but are having a hard time looking for a place near the station to leave their bicycles.
Yuehai Sub district planners will be proposing to construct a bicycle stand that will have 200 spots for workers to leave their bicycles and will be in the vicinity of Shenzhen High Tech Industrial Park’s shopping plaza. The proposed stand will be operated through a membership basis with free spots allocated to people signing up for membership cards. These bike stands are different from the ones in Shekou which offers rental services, the one near the Shenzhen University Station offers only point to point service which will allow people to leave their bicycles overnight while taking the Metro.
Once the initial operation if successful the sub district will be promoting the services further.
Currently there are three bike stands operating in Shenzhen, one in Yantian which the government has funded the bikes and facilities and commissioned an outside enterprise to handle the rental operations. Shekou used a market mechanism by letting a company operate the bike rental system including the investment and maintenance. The last model provided bikers places to leave their bicycles but can only be implemented once the road networks is completed since it requires the construction of parking places.
