Park Renovation to Upgrade Broadcast Systems, Add Sports Facilities and Free WiFi
Renovations at the Central Park in Futian will soon start its second phase of construction and will enable the park to handle around 100,000 park visitors. The renovations will upgrade the broadcast systems in the park adding more sports facilities and a WiFi service.
The Central Park borders Shennan Boulevard and passes through busy thoroughfares namely Hongli Road, Sungang Road West and Fuhua Road. Even with its central location, residents were not visiting the park until the completion of the first phase of renovations last year. The first phase connected several separated areas in the park by hiking and cycling tracks and have installed five public toilets and added ten more entrances. The park also constructed 210 parking spaces and has two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, two tennis courts and a football pitch.
Several residents were surprises with the changes made in the park which some said was not visitor friendly in regards with accessibility and public facilities. Based on renovation plans eleven parks in the city will be providing free WiFi by the end of the year, and two parks namely Shenzhen Garden Expo Park and Lianhua Hill Park are offering WiFi services on a trial basis.
