City to Introduce Low Carbon Cards to Further Promote Garbage Classification
The city Ludian Environmental Promotion Center is promoting garbage classification and recycling during an activity at the Shenzhen Book City CBD Store in Futian. The event organizer introduced a low carbon card to the audience that can be used in recording resident garbage classification behaviors.
Once a resident dispose garbage after classifying and sorting their waste materials, they can then use the cards to get certain credits that they can exchange for items once they accumulated enough of the credits. Although there are still details to be clarified on how the credit recording process will work. People can sort out kitchen garbage, used clothes and other items to designated locations to get low carbon credits. Clothes that look new and reusable will be donated to people in need. Old and tattered clothes will be used in making mops while clothes that are unusable will be mixed with other materials to produce tar for paving roads.
During the annual session of the National People’s Congress, city mayor Xu Qin said that the city is planning to improve the environment and the garbage classifications is part of their effort to curb carbon emissions and it goal on becoming a low carbon city.
