Shenzhen Distributes Clothes Recycling Box in 50 Communities
There are more than 100 clothes recycling boxes have been set up in Bao’an District across more than 50 communities in the district since last year. Since then the district have accumulated more than 2,143 kilograms of used clothing, 335 kilograms have been donated to rural areas using charity organizations.
The green clothes recycling box can be found in all the districts major residential communities and cost 4,000 yuan each and was provided to the community for free. To help facilitate the recycling the district commissioned a professional textile recycling company based on the same principle in Hong Kong. The company will be working with the local government, charitable organizations and communities in efforts to help reduce waste and carbon emissions.
Hong Kong also has clothes recycling company called Community Used Clothes Recycling Bank which acts as a bridge between communities and organizations that helps residents find ways to dispose of their used clothes properly. All clothes donated are sorted out and disinfected properly.
The clothes donated are still in good condition and they company donates the items to poor families in rural areas. Clothes that can’t be used are processed into industrial raw materials. In the past residents didn’t have any ideas on how to dispose their used clothes, some wanted to donate them but don’t know where and how.
