Railway Construction Meets Several Delays
Construction for several different intercity railways that connects three cities is progressing slowly. The railways is said to connect Shenzhen to Dongguan and Huizhou. Work on the 99 kilometer line that connects Dongguan and Huizhou started May of 2009 and was suppose to be completed last year but its opening have been delayed twice and now reported to open next year.
That line includes the 33 kilometer section of Huizhou that has seven stations and have seen smooth construction, but work on the Dongguan section of more than 60 kilometers was suspended due to several collapses. Construction of the Shenzhen International Railway stations that is said to connect Dongguan to Guangzhou is still unknown. The rail line will enter Dongguan by Xintang before reaching Shenzhen airport and will pass through several towns and subdistricts.
Construction on another railway that connects Shenzhen and Huizhou has not even started and based on plans released in 2010 the 113 kilometer long railway is due to open in 2020 and costs 30 billion yuan but is still in the planning phase. Both Shenzhen and Huizhou have not reached a consensus on how to fund the projects or how to generate profits once its completed.
