Li Na Forces Comeback and Reaches Fourth Round of Miami Masters
Li Na reached the fourth round of the WTA and ATP Miami Masters event and fought off a comeback bid by defeating American Varvara Lepchenko. Li hurt her ankle during the Australian Open finals and have been sidelined for seven weeks.
Li’s win last Saturday improves her standing to 16-2 on the season. Li dominated the set and dropped only five points on her serve, while Lepchenko only managed one win against 10 unforced errors. Lepchenko made 19 unforced errors will bring her down to 4-7 this season.
Li was able to jump ahead with 4-2 on the second set then Lepchenko managed break point chance and took advantage with a net cord winner to break back and held that set at 4-4. Li then ended the matters on the 10th game when Lepchenko hit a backhand winner and Li was able to force a smashed forehand winner for the victory.
