City Urged to Find Ways to Protect Yinhu Lake
Yinhu Lake in Futian is a well known scenic spot in Futian and residents are becoming concern as it is being ruined with garbage and waste and they are now asking local administrators for ways to increase ways in protecting the lake.
The area around the lake has been neglected and left without upkeep, along with a roadside pavilion was littered with garbage ranging from throw away food containers and plastic bottles and the lakeside office is usually locked and no one is on duty. The hiking trail along the lake became unusable since it is littered with glass bottles, cigarette butts, food packages and other trash while the water is littered with floating garbage.
People that are fishing on the lake say that cleaners are rarely on duty and one resident said that the lake is transferred into a commercial fishing pond. A fisherman said that the cost of angling in the lake is around 80 yuan a day with a 400 yuan discount if a fisherman avails of the 20 day account. Although there is a strict supervision on angling administered on the lake with staff on constant patrol, anglers say that they rarely see a cleaner.
One sanitation worker in charge of cleaning the road around Yinhu said that cleaning the lake is not part of their duty and they already have their hands full since traffic on the roads are already busy and an equestrian farm located nearby makes cleaning harder since some horses are used on the road making it threat to public safety and cleaning more difficult since the horses defecate on the roads as well.
Lake administrators should increase public interest in finding ways in preserving the lake rather than pursuing economic profits.
