Another Road Closed to Give Way to Metro Expansion
Sections of the Jingtian Road coming from Jingtianbei Street to Lianhua Road and coming from Lianhua Road going to Tianping Building in Futian was closed yesterday to give way to the expansion of the Jingtian Station to further accommodate the planned Line 9 of the Metro. The closure will last until June of 2015.
The city transport commission will be changing 10 bus routes during the construction. Once Metro Line 9 opens in 2016, Jingtian Station will become an interchange station for Shekou line. Also known as Meilin Line will be 25.33 kilometer long with 22 stations and starts at Shenwan Station in Nanshan and ends in Wenjin Station in Luohu. While in futian traffic at the Huaqiangbei area is congestion free over the past month since the closure of the Huaqiang North road due to the expansion construction of the Metro line 7. Transportation authorities in the area said that public transportation in the area have transported more than 600,000 people a day which includes 260,000 metro commuters since the road was closed.
Metro riders in Huaqiangbei have increased by 16 percent on average since the closure. There are six Metro stations in the area namely the Huaqiang North and Yannan stations on the Shekou Line, the Huaqiang Road and Science Museum Stations on Luobao and the Tongxinling and Huaxin stations on Longgang. Ten roads will also be closed or have been closed to give way to the construction of Metro Line 9, 11 and 7.
