Residents Buying Herbal Medicines to Help Prevent Viral Infections
Residents are flocking local pharmacies to pick up herbal medicines that they think can prevent infection from the H7N9 bird flu virus since these remedies were suggested by Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals. An employee of a local drugstore said that more than 20 residents came in and bought the herbs that they think are reliable since they were prescribed by a TCM Hospital.
Shenzhen TCM Hospital said that they saw an increase in the number of residents purchasing herbal medicines that they taught can ward off influenza, but staff at hospitals are telling residents that they should not be worried on contracting the virus since its has been limited to eastern China and there was no need to rush in buying traditional medicines since supplies are plentiful.
There are two remedies in preventing the infection, the first remedy is said to prevent influenza in general, and the second is tailor made for Shenzhen’s moist spring climate. The hospital says that the second remedy is the most asked for since spring season is also the peak time of the outbreak of influenza A virus. Hospitals in other cities are also starting to recommend remedies for the prevention of the H7N9 virus.
