Guangzhou to Impose Vehicle Restrictions Soon
Transportation officials in Guangzhou have proposed restrictions for vehicles that are not registered in the city. This will include ban in dome urban roads especially during rush hours. The plan restrictions are now open for public opinion.
Restricted areas include all of the provincial capital Yuexiu, Haizhu and Liwan districts and most areas of Baiyun and Tianhe districts. Vehicles that are registered outside of Guangzhou are not allowed to enter the restricted areas on weekdays from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm. Non local vehicles will be banned from 7 am to 7 pm on trunk roads namely Neihuan Road, Jinshazhou Road, Zhongshan Road Gongye and Huangpu boulevards. Despite frequent traffic jams the 12 hour restriction will not include Zhongshan Road, Huanshi Road, Dongfeng Road and Guangzhou Boulevard.
The transportation office said that they will be giving drivers grace period before they will implement the restriction and fines. The transportation office will also be building 36 more parking lots which will offer 24,000 more additional parking spaces that will allow drivers to park their vehicles and use public transportation.
Although most of the residents support the draft, some are worried that these restrictions on chosen roads will further alleviate traffic jams on other roads.
