Ongoing Metro Construction Worsens Traffic in the City
The Metro construction projects have made traffic around the city worse especially during rush hours. Based on a report released by the Shenzhen transport commission, average vehicle speeds on the streets dropped because of the work done on the Metro lines along with the an increased number of vehicles driven in the city.
Traffic was assessed in 87 areas last month and thirteen of them were categorized as congested, while 36 areas were categorized as slow. The continuous Metro work increases the congestion in areas namely Shangsha, Xiasha, Bagualing, Huanggang, and Shenzhen Bay. Roads such as Hongling, Nanhai, Xinzhou, Binhai, Beihuan, Bulong, and Huanggang saw slow speeds and congestion during rush hours.
Average speeds of these vehicles were recorded was about 26 kilometers an hour showing a drop of 30 percent from February.
