Bar Starts Campaign for Free Lunches
A local bar launched a campaign that offers free lunches to local residents last Friday, but no one showed up on the first day the bar offered its first free meal. In a microblog post said that the Room Bar located in Splendid China Folk Village in Nanshan offered free meals from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The free meal was part of an effort in helping the bar’s cleaning staff that are having trouble in finding cheap restaurant to eat in the OCT area. The bar’s owner said he started the program after reading a same project online and that they have prepared five lunches as a trial but nobody showed up. Although the bar have received donations for the program but was declined, saying that the meals he prepared are ordered from other restaurants and has intended to feed people living or working nearby.
To further promote his project the bar’s owner is planning to tell workers in cleaning companies about the free lunches and will continue to offer the free meals. Most of the people have a strong sense of self esteem and only a few will take advantage at a cost of other people’s expenses. He also said that other people might think that his kindness could be misdirected.
Also known as suspended lunches the idea of free lunches came from Europe’s growing trend of suspended coffee trend wherein people buy a cup of coffee but also pay for another one which is left for anyone who want a cup of coffee but could not afford one. The concept of free lunches was promoted in China on microblogs by a police officer in Shaanxi and he wants to extend the concept of suspended items from meals to other things ranging from clothes, school items and school supplies.
