Career Day at Shekou International School
Students at Shekou International School located in Shenzhen, China gained valuable career advice from leading industry experts such as the Shenzhen Ikea Store Manager and the Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts Manager at its recent career day. All high school students were invited to participate and to learn about various career options. 14 professionals from the Shekou International School parent community and the Shenzhen area shared their career experiences and explained how their educational choices shaped their career path.
Students learned about such professions as nursing, marketing, hotel management and engineering. Jacob Gray, High School Counselor, noted that Shekou International Students were exposed to a wide variety of careers and were fortunate to get first hand advice from executives that all stressed the importance of education, taking risks and not being afraid to fail. Middle and High School Principal Philippa Curtis noted that, “Our students are ambitious and motivated to learn more about how their High School and College studies prepare them for life beyond school. Career Day was a wonderful opportunity for students to make connections with members of the community and to learn from their expertise.”
Students attended three small group sessions that allowed them to ask questions in a relaxed environment. “I found the talk on Pharmacy to be really interesting. Not only did she explain about the profession, but she provided many resources to support us in the classes we will need to take in college,” mentioned Julie Kim who is a Senior.
