Career Day at Shekou International SchoolStudents at Shekou International School located in Shenzhen, China gained valuable career advice from leading industry experts such as the Shenzhen Ikea Store Manager and the Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts Manager at its recent career day.  All high school students were invited to participate and to learn about various career options.  14 professionals from the Shekou International School parent community and the Shenzhen area shared their career experiences and explained how their educational choices shaped their career path.

Students learned about such professions as nursing, marketing, hotel management and engineering. Jacob Gray, High School Counselor, noted that Shekou International Students were exposed to a wide variety of careers and were fortunate to get first hand advice from executives that all stressed the importance of education, taking risks and not being afraid to fail.  Middle and High School Principal Philippa Curtis noted that, “Our students are ambitious and motivated to learn more about how their High School and College studies prepare them for life beyond school.  Career Day was a wonderful opportunity for students to make connections with members of the community and to learn from their expertise.”

Career Day at Shekou International SchoolStudents attended three small group sessions that allowed them to ask questions in a relaxed environment.  “I found the talk on Pharmacy to be really interesting.  Not only did she explain about the profession, but she provided many resources to support us in the classes we will need to take in college,” mentioned Julie Kim who is a Senior.

Established in 1988, Shekou International School (SIS) is dedicated to meeting the diverse educational needs of the expatriate community in the Shenzhen and Hong Kong area. SIS is governed by International Schools Services (ISS) of Princeton, New Jersey. Shekou International School is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate and is the only school in Shenzhen fully accredited from preschool to grade 12 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Shekou International School was established in 1988. It is dedicated to meeting the diverse educational needs of the expatriate community. SIS is an international school with an American- based curriculum. The school is governed by International Schools Services (ISS) of Princeton, New Jersey.

We offer a rigorous academic program to meet parents' high expectations. We have state-of-the-art facilities and cater to learners from nursery through high school. A rich mix of academics, athletics, and activities delivered by a world-class faculty ensure maximum learning for students.

The Elementary School and Nursery campuses are located in our Mountainside and Parkside buildings, in the beautiful Jing Shan residential area. Middle and high school classes are housed in our Bayside campus, which is adjacent to the Coastal Rose Garden residential complex.

Our high school offers a rigorous college preparatory program. SIS is an International Baccalaureate World School currently offering the IB diploma program to grade 11 students. The program will begin for grade 12 students in August 2011.

The language of instruction is English for all classes, with the exception of proficiency- leveled Mandarin classes. Additionally, SIS offers the French National Curriculum in grades K-5 in which the language of instruction in academic subjects is French.
