Hospital Offers Discount to Migrant Workers in Pingshan New AreaMigrant workers living in Shenzhen are temporarily eligible for a 50 percent discount when the visit doctors at the Shenzhen Jiangfeng Hospital in Pingshan New Area. The hospital launched their discount service last Sunday with the cooperation of the Guangdong Yuanda Charity Foundation and the services will run until June 30.

Patients with medical insurance or industrial injury insurance are bound with the hospital and patients will not be charged when they see doctors in the pediatric, medical and traditional Chinese medicine department. Patients with insurance not bound with the hospital nor are uninsured will get 50 percent discount on costs ranging from consultation fees, medicines and treatment fees.

The Guangdong based charity organization has already donated 600,000 yuan to the hospital that helped it offer the discount program which is also the city’s first charitable medical service of its kind. Chen Honglei, the president of the hospital said that a lot of migrant workers have low income and find it too expensive to see doctors in hospitals. Having such a service will help these migrant workers living or working in the area lessens their medical burdens.

The foundation will work further with the hospital in hopes to start an aid program for patients that have serious illness and to set up a care foundation for women and children as well.
