Passengers Encouraged to Use Seat Belts on Buses Using Expressways
Officials are trying to raise awareness in the importance of using seat belts while traveling to improve the safety of the vehicle’s passengers on buses that are using the expressways. The city transport commission is asking bus operators to inspect all seat belts on their buses using expressways after the recent truck and bus accident in Jiangshu.
Public buses using expressways are required to have seat belts based on regulations, but several local buses traveling between Pingdi and Bantian using Shuiguan expressways don’t have seat belts. Meanwhile buses on routes between Pingshan and the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park are either buried under the seats, in poor condition or hard to find and use. Another problem is that passengers are unlikely to put on their seat belts even when reminded by the driver and ticker sellers.
Regulations are requiring drivers and ticket sellers to ask passengers to fasten their seat belts when the bus is driving on the expressway. a driver can also be fined if they are caught not using their own seat belts on local streets. Traffic police will be imposing a two point penalty for seat belt violations.
