Package Fee Offered for Six Basic Medical Treatments
On Monday the University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital began offering a package fee of 180 yuan a day for the six basic inpatient medical treatments. The 180 yuan will include medical exams, infusions, nursing, oxygen treatments, inhaled or sprayed medicines and medical changes. Hospital officials said that the 124 yuan part of the fee is reimbursed by medical insurance.
Fees for specialized medical equipment and medicines and those using disposable medical materials will not be included in the package fee. Surgical fees will also be charged independently. According to the city municipal health, population and family planning commission the six basic medical treatments in the package fee have included more than 40 sub items. The package fee represents a middle ground, this means that the patient uses the most expensive treatment in the package the fee will be higher than 180 yuan, but is lesser if the patient chooses to use the cheapest treatment which usually balances out the overall costs.
However doctors at the hospital said that the package fee might not cover the labor costs to serve patients that need medicine changes or oxygen treatments. The hospital have 300 beds in the inpatient department and the package deal is offered to free the medical staff from the process of redundant fee charging and to give them more time to serve patients.
