More Students Passing up on Taking the National College Entrance Examination
Around 1,173 students in Shenzhen did not partake in this year’s National College Entrance Exams that ended last Saturday, which is 3 percent of the total number of students that were eligible for the two day test. The number was 229 more the number of students that didn’t join in last year’s examinations.
Most of the students who didn’t’ join the exams are either already enrolled in domestic universities or were already recommended for enrollment. Others are planning to study overseas. While others decided to take the exams in other cities and provinces after they have applied for the exams in Shenzhen. Only a handful of students from vocational schools chose to work after they applied for the examination.
More than 9 million students have applied for this year’s examination nationwide and a million gave up a few days before the exams started. The number of students who gave up might increase since other students didn’t finish the tests or didn’t push through with their application forms for universities after taking the examinations.
Since 2010 the number of students giving up the Exams has been increasing steadily or around 100,000 every year. Most of the students especially those living in major cities did not take the NCEE since most of them were planning to study abroad while some decided to start working instead of taking the exams.
