Residential Water Pipelines to get UpgradesThe city water authorities are setting aside 1.5 billion yuan for the upgrading of residential water supply pipelines. The water quality improvement plan that is approved by the city government.

The first phases of the upgrading will take around five years and focuses on residential buildings where the water quality is low due to substandard and leaking pipes. The districts that will be covered under the first phase are urban villages in Futian, Luohu, Yantian and Nanshan districts. The upgrade will involve 300,000 households or 30 percent of the city total. Costs for homeowners will be shouldered by property maintenance funds and residents don’t need to pay any extra fees for the upgrades.

Most of the water systems found in households are using galvanized steel or cast iron pipes which cause rust after a sometime resulting to yellowish water with residue. While some households experience leakage problems.
