Public Opinion Sought on the Measures to Limit the Number of Vehicles in Dapeng New Area
The city traffic police are now seeking public opinion on their plans to limit the number of vehicles into Dapeng and Nan’ao sub district in Dapeng New Area by restricting travels on certain days which will be based on license plate numbers. These restrictions will likely be implemented during weekends and holidays during the summer. Traffic police will be testing the restriction on July 13 and 14 before doing any improvements and handing it over to lawmakers for its approval or dismissal.
The measure will only allow Shenzhen registered vehicles with license plates that ends in odd numbers to travel to the subdistricts on odd numbered days. Vehicles ending in even numbers care allowed to travel on even numbered dates. Public vehicles, tour buses, vehicles for special purposes and school buses will not be included in the restrictions. Residents and employees either working or living in the subdistricts must acquire certificates from traffic police to be allowed travel in the areas.
A total of 162 kilometers of roads accounts for the road system in Dapeng is under develop and only has four lanes expressways which links the peninsula form the rest of the city. And during weekends and holidays an average of 18,000 vehicles enter the area that has only 6,000 parking places and this causes traffic jams.
