Commission Supports Decision on the Cancellation of Toll Fees
Shenzhen transportation Commission is asking local lawmakers to cancel the toll on the Queshan Road-Huawang Road section of the Longda Expressway this week. During the annual session of the municipal people’s congress had lawmakers argues that the toll on the expressway is unreasonable since it was charging 9 yuan for a distance of not more than 10 kilometers or more than 1 yuan per kilometer from Langtian Tollgate to Guangming New Area.
Lawmakers are asking for the total cancellation of the toll but the commission countered by saying that the distance from the start of Longda Expressway to Guangming is actually 14.3 kilometers thus the 9 yuan toll is equal to 0.6 yuan per kilometer and is in line with the Guangdong Province toll standard.
The discrepancy in the calculation came because of the distance includes the sction from Queshan which is the starting point of Longda Expressway to Langtian Tollgate in Fulong Road that started operation in 2007. This was planned originally to connect Longda Expressway to Queshan Road but connected with the expressway on the Huawang Road Section due to a design change thus causing drivers to pay a higher toll when traveling a shorter distance.
The commission will support the decision to cancel the toll for the Queshan-Huawang section but sated that it was no the right time to cancel the entire toll to Guangming since the operator for the expressway has the right to collect toll fees for 14 more years.
