Month Long Bus Safety Campaign Starts Today
As of yesterday the city police along with the transport commission have started to do safety checks at bus stations as part of their month long campaign in ensuring bus safety. A 1,000 member strong unit which includes 600 police officers and security guards and 400 employees of the transport commission and bus companies were sent to 100 bus stations across the city from 5 pm to 7 pm to do baggage inspections.
During inspection two pickpockets were apprehended and 13 controlled articles were confiscated. A police officer said that the inspections will not waste the time of passengers since they are using detecting devices in checking the baggage. Some bus riders said that the enhanced security is a welcome sight after the accident in a passenger bus in Xiamen happened a month ago. Police are constantly reminding passengers to take preventive measures and not to bring any controlled substances such as weapons, or flammable items on buses.
Passengers are also reminded to take proper measure in bringing items such as fruit knives or hammers on buses since only one of each item is allowed on to buses. Passengers are also not allowed to carry more than two bottles of hard liquor, pesticides and two lighters on Shenzhen buses.
