City to Start Banning High Polluting Vehicles
On designated days between 7:30 am to 7:30 pm Shenzhen will be banning high polluting vehicles. The ban will start and will take effect from July 1 until December 31and is based on vehicles license plates numbers. Vehicles with emissions that meets National I standards are registered as high polluting vehicles and vehicles that were given yellow labels.
Yellow labeled vehicles are those registered in the city or elsewhere in the country that has license plates that ends with odd numbers are allowed on Shenzhen roads only on odd numbered days starting next month. And those yellow labeled vehicles with even numbers are allowed on local roads on even numbered days. Drivers caught violating these restrictions will be fined 300 yuan and drivers without green or yellow label are fined 1,000 yuan.
And by July 1 all vehicles with diesel emissions that meet the National II standard will now be treated as yellow label vehicles. There are 78,600 said vehicles that are registered in Shenzhen and these vehicles will be shifted from green label to national label vehicles status. The city environmental authority said that drivers that have applied for or has already a green label can continue to use their label but need to apply for a yellow label three months before their green label expires.
Drivers who scrap the yellow label vehicles a year earlier that legally required are eligible for subsidies ranging from 5,000 yuan to 18,000 yuan. Owners of yellow label vehicles that transferred from Shenzhen to other cities receive subsidies of 3,000 yuan. Drivers who scrap vehicles with engine displacements of more than 1.35 liters can get 18,000 yuan and drivers scrapping vehicles with engine displacement of 1 to 1.35 liters gets 10,000 yuan and the subsidy for scrapping vehicles with engine displacements less than 1 liter gets 6,000 yuan subsidy.
