New Passport Policy to Benefit More Residents
Residents without local hukou or permanent household registration can now apply for passports in Shenzhen rather than going back to their hometowns starting this month based on a new passport policy. The new policy will benefit more than 5 million Shenzhen residents which are issued by the Ministry of Public Security.
The policy covers 43 cities which include capitals such as Beijing, Xi’an and Shenyang and cities with large migrant populations. And based on the new policy residents without local hukou in 31 of these cities which includes Shenzhen can now apply for travel documents going to Taiwan. Interested applicants will have to provide hukou documents, ID cards and social insurance certificates for more than a year. Students applying will have to provide school certificates as well. Applicant spouses and children younger than 16 must provide certificates showing local residency at least six months or more.
Exit and Entry Administration of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau is now working on the detailed application procedures and requirements that the administration will be announcing online on its official website. If this policy will work it will be saving residents time and money traveling to their hometowns just to do passport procedures.
