Li Na Enters Wimbledon Quarterfinals
Sixth seed Li Na enters the Wimbledon quarterfinals after defeating the 11th seed Italian Roberta Vinci. A far cry from her previous two matches that went to three sets. Na just took 55 minutes to defeat her fourth round opponent. By reaching the last eight, Li was able to match her Wimbledon best by making it to the quarterfinals in 2006 and in 2010.
Li had 26 winners against Vinci’s eight and Li’s Service was more reliable than the Italian’s. Vinci is on her career high ranking 11th in the world and eon the Katowice tournament by defeating Petra Kvitova in the finals. But has no record of defeating Li since their four encounters that dates back to 2001.
Meanwhile Li’s run in the Australian Open earlier this year is the only time she made a Grand Slam Quarterfinal in nine majors after winning the French Open. On the other hand defending champion Serena Williams who hopes to win her sixth Wimbledon title was defeated in the fourth round by Germany’s Sabine Lisicki.
