City to Construct Longest Tunnel to Connect Pingshan with Yantian
Construction of a 6.5 kilometer tunnel that will link Pingshan New Area with Yantian is scheduled to start later this year. As city transport officials are preparing for its construction at a cost of more than 3 billion yuan is said to be the longest tunnel in Shenzhen and will be completed by 2015. The tunnel is part of the 11.3 kilometer Pingyan Passage that will cut driving time between the two areas down to ten minutes.
The south-north passage starts at the intersection of Jinlong and Zhongshan Boulevard in Pingshan, the south of Pingshan River and then connects with Yanba Expressway in Yantian. The passage will have six lanes, three bridges, two flyovers and the tunnel with a speed limit of 80 kilometers an hour. The tunnel will also connect Shangping and Yuejin reservoirs through a route that travels beneath the OCT East theme park.
Pingshan is still in the process of developing their road and public transportation infrastructure and the only existing major road that connects Pingshan and Futian district is Hengping Road. Drivers usually take Shuiguan Expressway, Nanping Expressway and Hengping Road to reach Pingshan and it takes about an hour of driving.
