Traffic Police Sees Desired Effect of Planned Vehicle Restrictions
The number of vehicles that traveled to Dapeng over the weekend dropped compared to the previous weeks, which only means that the trials for the vehicle restrictions using license plates had the desired effect of reducing traffic congestion in the tourist heavy area.
Over the weekend traffic police tested the restrictions that allowed vehicles to enter the areas based on odd and even numbers on the plates to odd and even numbered days. Police also issued no fine during the two day test and reported that there was potential compliance and effectiveness. On Saturday more than 15,000 vehicles entered Dapeng a 7.6 decrease compared to last Saturday. Then on Sunday more than 10,000 vehicles entered Dapeng.
Police said that traffic in Dapeng was good with minimal congestion. Parking spots were also available to those who brought cars into the area. On the other hand local restaurants said that the number of customers dropped compared to other days, this prompted business owners to oppose the restriction saying that it might the potential to impact their business especially during the summer wherein tourist revenue is high.
