Auto Maintenance Industry Lacks Skilled Workers
While auto sales market in Shenzhen is expanding due to increase sales, but the auto maintenance industry is having a hard time finding enough workers with high end mechanical skills. A recruitment manager said during the 9th Job Fair for Technical Talents in the Auto Industry is looking of skilled mechanics whether low end or high end, especially those with exceptional skills in the field for car detailing and metal plate work.
Shenzhen has more than 3,000 automobile maintenance companies that employ around 80,000 workers, but the industry talent gap is estimated to create a shortage of more than 20,000 skilled workers. Several companies in the industry are suffering from a high turnover rate. This mean and ordinary worker can become a skilled technician within eight years in a workshop. But most young men don’t have the patience so in less than six months most of them change to easier office jobs or look for jobs in other mainland cities.
Media outlets are suggesting that the industry low salaries are one of the leading causes of the brain drain. Senior mechanics usually earn 8,000 yuan or more a month, while junior mechanics earn 4,000 yuan while laborers earn around 2,000 yuan.
