Transport Commission Plans to Increase Parking Fees
Several residents have been voicing their opinions on the city’s planned parking fee hike along with the possibility of a new charge on people driving during rush hours. The city transport commission plans to pose extra charges to people who parks in parking facilities where they work during the day.
The parking charges will be determined on the length of time the car is parked and is considered as the administration charge as well. These extra charges will be piloted in selected areas. Along with the extra charges the commission is also planning to pilot roadside parking fees. Officials are studying the feasibility of implementing a congestion fee in several areas starting next year, meaning drivers will be charged during daily rush hours but the details in such charges have yet to be clarified.
Experts say that before the city implements the congestion fee, the public transit must be developed further to enable it to meet the demands of residents. Furthermore officials must listen to public opinions to help assess public needs before planning any changes or charging of higher traffic fees. If the congestion fee will be approved experts say that the funds must be used in further developing the city public transportation system.
The parking fee hike is just one of the twenty five planned measures that the bureau will be implementing in their efforts to relieve traffic congestion. Other measures consists of placing selected areas in Central Shenzhen under strict traffic control.
