News Graduates Can’t Meet Demand for Doctors at Public Hospitals
There will be more than a hundred students graduating from a city level inpatient doctor training program this coming August, still this amount of new doctors cannot meet the increasing demand for doctors at public hospitals in Shenzhen.
The health commission said that the city still needs 10,000 doctors by 2015, this means that a public hospital must add 3,000 new doctors every year and the number of students that gets training for the local program is far from meeting the demand. Since last year, the city public hospital has already suspended recruitment of university graduates. All graduates must receive three years for training and two years postgraduate education before they are allowed to work in hospitals as this will increase their skills and experience.
Launched in 2010, only 28 students enrolled on a trial basis. Four of the 28 students have started working last year and the remaining 24 are planning to work with post graduates students who enrolled in 2011. This year around 500 students have enrolled with the program which is 40 percent less than last year.
