City to Open More TCM Clinics by 2015
By the end of 2015, Shenzhen is expecting to have more traditional Chinese medicine clinics opened. Based on the current plan these TCM clinics will receive more than 20 million patients in 2015 or around 250 percent increase of visits compared to 2010.
As of the moment nearly 100 of these clinics are found at different locations in the city with nearly 300 TCM practicing doctors. Clinics receive an average of 500,000 visits for patients every year, which is nearly the same as a district level TCM hospital. Based on a study that if each clinic serves 15,000 patients the city will then need more than 900 more TCM clinics in 2015 and an additional 2,000 more TCM doctors is required.
Because of the strong increase, the health commission is planning to launch a citywide check on all operations of TCM clinics starting next week. Clinics that are caught violating any of the city rules on medical practices will be forced to shut down and fined of up to 20,000 yuan. this check will act as comprehensive investigations in the TCM clinics around the city and will also help regulate its services to provide a safe, affordable and convenient services to patients.
