Subsidies to be Released for Replacing Malfunctioning Elevators
The district government of Luohu is planning to allocate around 7 million yuan until 2015 to help subsidize the replacement of elevators that are 15 years old in the district, after a malfunctioned elevator caused an accident earlier this year.
There are more than 8,000 elevators in the district and almost 2,000 of them are 15 years old which is 23 percent of the total number of elevators in the district. These elevators have higher risks of accidents at the electronic components age. Three elevator companies have been designated by the Luohu government to conduct surveys to give ideas on any renovation solutions and subsidies for the old elevators. The biggest subsidy that can be given could reach 200,000 yuan.
Any renovation plans must be approved by property owners. Although it was hard enough to raise money to start any renovation project since there is a special fund for elevator maintenance is scarce. Furthermore tenants in old communities have exceeded the number of owners.
