Another Commission Opposes on the Building of Coal Power Plant

Another Commission Oppose on the Building of Coal Power PlantThe human settlements and environment commission stated that the plan of building the new coal fired power plant in Baguang must be scrapped after concerns were expressed on the plant can further worsen the air quality in Shenzhen.

The commission is the second government department that shared their opposition in the plan of opening the power plant. The first one was the urban planning, land and resources commission which said that the city is not suitable for these types of power plants. Even with this two government departments expressing their opinions, the development and reform commission is still to clarify on their position on the planned project. The human settlements and environment commission released their statement just after the municipal government adopted the new plan that was aimed to improve the air quality during an executive meeting thus ruling out the possibility of building coal power plants.

The human settlements and environment commission’s Monday statement, in a reply to Southern Metropolis Daily, came after the municipal government adopted a new plan aimed at improving air quality during a municipal government executive meeting Thursday, effectively ruling out the building of coal power plants. the new plans on air quality improvement also includes specific pollution control measure, ranging from reducing vehicle exhaust emission, stopping the use of coal powered boilers and scrapping unqualified vehicles.
