City to Issue Yellow Storm Signal by this Afternoon
Typhoon Utor will be the 11th tropical storm to affect the southwestern Pacific region this year and is likely to make landfall in the coast of western Guangdong and eastern Hainan. The typhoon is said to be the strongest storm to hit Guangdong this year.
The city meteorological observatory has issued a blue signal, the lowest of the four tiered warning system and is likely to upgrade to a yellow signal by this afternoon. The storm is moving with the speed of 20 to 25 kilometers an hour and by Monday afternoon was 770 southeast of Shenzhen. The storm will be bringing a new round of rainfall today until Friday with temperature dropping to 25 degrees Celsius.
The rainfall for the next four days will bring in an accumulated rainfall of 100 to 200 millimeters and as much as 250 millimeters in some areas. Recently the temperature in Shenzhen hit more than 35 degrees Celsius which was brought by typhoon Utor. Residents are reminded to avoid doing any activity by the sea.
