Internet Users in Shenzhen to Reach 9 Million by 2016
By 2016 the internet population in Shenzhen is said to reach 9 million users which is based on a study released by the Shenzhen Association of Online Media and China Internet Network Information Center. By the end of 2012 the netizens in the city were already at 8.19 million, more than 1 percent increase compared to 2011. More than 90 percent of the internet users in Shenzhen are using a broadband internet connection.
Residents are using the internet as part of their daily routine in catching up with the news, buying things, checking on work related information and having fun. Study showed that residents spends at least 30 hours on average a week on the internet last year, this is 9 hours longer than the national level. And in 2012 the five most popular uses if the internet ranged from instant messaging, music, search engines, news and online videos.
Around 65 percent of the netizens in the city gather their information using mobile internet and by the end of 2012 6 million people were using mobile internet which is more than 8 percent growth compared to 2011.
